 As a lifetime student and teacher of ancient Egyptian defensive and spiritual
training, Dr. Ahmses SaRa M Maat has over 25 years of experience and is a High
Ranking Black Belt. Recognized as a healer first and a master warrior second, he
has reached the level of Maatiu (spiritualist) which is the highest level
achievable by Pendekar masters.
He began his training in 1970 under the teachings of Guru Willie J.C. Wetzel,
Pentjak Silat - Poekoelan Tjimindie Ninth Degree Golden Dragon, and was awarded
the rank of expert black belt.
In 1977, Dr. Maat opened the Community College of Allegheny County Martial
Arts Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There, he directed classes for beginners
and held seminars for advanced martial arts. Later, he was awarded an Honorary
Black Belt in Chinese Boxing from Ricky Michael, head instructor of the Academy
of Chinese Boxing.
It was in 1980 when he began to serve as the martial arts television host
for Pittsburgh's Warner Public Television show “Self Defense in Motion”. He
conducted numerous informative television interviews with martial arts
instructors of various styles and systems. Once again, he received an honorary
Black Belt. This time it was in CombatDo under the head instructor, Sensei
Richard Morris from the CombatDo School of Martial Arts.
In 1985, after obtaining a government contract at the United States Army’s
Fort McPherson and Gillem in Atlanta Georgia, he became an extensive trainer of
military personnel in self-defense techniques and strategies. His concern for
Women’s Self Defense led him to become a volunteer at the Clayton County Georgia
Rape Counseling Center.
In 1992, he became a “Minister of Defense” for the Nation of Islam
Pasadena, California, Study Group and later began to offer private instruction
and advanced seminars in Silat, Cuntao, Executive Protection, Grappling, Nubian
Wrestling, and African Tradition.
Currently, Dr. Ahmses SaRa M Maat is the co-founder of Mntu University of
Afrakan Defense and is professionally credential as a Certified Cardiovascular
Perfusionist, Registered Respiratory Therapist, Hypnotist and Doctorate in the
field of Metaphysics. Ahmses SaRa M Maat is also an intense student in the study
of ancient Egypt (KMT), and he has devoted much of his time towards the mental,
spiritual, and physical education and development of African people. Through a
series of lectures and seminars on subjects ranging from the “African Origins of
Martial Arts”, "Afrakan Contributions to Medicine and Surgery", to
“Kujichagulia” (name-changing ceremonies), he has become a frequently invited
speaker and instructor across the nation. And, through his training and
instruction in spirituality, world history, medicine, martial arts and
self-defense, he has helped to lead many on a path towards healing,
self-awareness and discovery.
